Checking Charity Checkouts: Swiss Red Cross

Yesterday I stumbled upon a Ted talk of Dan Pallota. A very interesting edition. The man states we should give the same opportunities to non-profits organizations as we do to the for-profit ones. Because currently we don’t.

I thought it would be time to give a look at how our Swiss charities do handle their online donation flows. Remember, I was a Digital Fundraiser previously and then worked 2 years in eCommerce…

This first edition of the CCC (Checking Charity Checkouts) will be about the Swiss Red Cross. One of the biggest charitable organization in Switzerland. Don’t get me wrong, I think they do a great job, but their site could need some improvements. I’m also mostly pinpointing what not working IMHO. I’ll let someone else do the praising.

Top 10: Beautiful Charity Websites

This post has been laying for long in my drafts. It was hard to find enough content to finish it before sharing it with you. If you have some nice links, please share them here.

The “Charity Top10” is purely based on the homepage design of those websites. I didn’t take the UX, the content nor the functionalities in account. And yes, sometimes the homepage is great but then when you digg into the website you can get disappoined. This can happen, but I wanted to focus on the first impression a visitor gets when reaching the index.php

1) War Child

This site is clearly my favorite. The clean and actual illustrations are great. Nice font design too. Perfect! The page “What we do” is also a neat one.

3 Non-Profit Very Actual Campaigns

A little compilation of 3 Non-Profit Campaigns I stumbled upon in the last couple of days. At the moment, I never saw anything that sophisticated in Switzerland. Will it come? Or maybe not? Are our NGO too small? Is the fact that we need to translate everything in 3 languages killing our creativity? Or are we too Swiss (to prudent, too shy, too respectful) ?

Own a color

A campaign from Unicef and Dulux. They came up with the simple idea that your computer can show 16.7 million colors. If they sell each of these for £1… well, the get a huge amount of money. On the site, you can pick an available color, give it a name, make a donation and then its yours. A very simple concept with a nice layout.

3 videos from Non-Profit Organizations

Just a small post for a rainy friday. And guess what! On fridays, I write in English, and… there is no reason for that.

Non-Profit doesn’t mean Non-Creativity. Here are 3 examples of well-crafted videos I found this week.

Amnesty International – 50 years

Friends of the Earth – A Love Story… in Milk

WWF – Save the Cerrado
