Freelancing: start of season #2

Hey, Bonjour, Salü zäme! Long time no see! The summer is always a busy time… away from the screen. And that’s good.

One year as a freelancer

The first year of my odyssey (!!!) as a freelancer is now over. A quick look over the shoulder helps to see where you’ve come from. And can give you hints and indications for the direction you should be heading.

  • The business didn’t grow as fast as I planned, but it is heading in the right direction.
  • Volunteers work for Museomix and the Swiss Tech Association is time-consuming, but it is defenitively worth it. #Fun #Networking.
  • Nothing is easy nor fast, but perseverance and hard work pay off.

Swiss Tech Talks Basel – Season 1 is over

A year ago Xavier contacted me to launch the Swiss Tech Talks in Basel. I saw it as a great opportunity to meet new people in a new city but I didn’t really forecast the workload which would be linked to it. Anyway, it was great fun and there will definitively be a Season Two!

Only 2 talks were held this season. 3 had been planned but I had to cancel one. I guess these are the “problème de jeunesse” which you should expect when creating something new. Let’s try to improve for next year.

Good start

Hi, I wish you all a great start in this new year!

It’s been already five months since I’ve started to work as a freelancer. And as you hear it all the time, starting your own company is a bumpy road! I thought I knew what I had signed up for. But guess what => it was harder than expected.

How to find an apartment in Basel… in 2 easy steps!

You really though 2 steps were enough?! Ok, that wasn’t funny… Everyone who had to do this job knows how painful it can be. There aren’t that many available flats in Swiss cities. The Swiss federal administration reported around 0.5% of free vacant houses in Basel (June 2014). I found a number for Amsterdam: over 3%! I do not know if they count exactly the same way, but it gives you an idea.

I was looking for an apartment in Switzerland and I wanted to share the tips I found. Of course, if you have ideas, you are also very welcome to share them. We visited 35 apartments until we found the right one.

Doei Doei Amsterdam!

After almost 2 years living and working in Amsterdam it is now time for a change. As of July we (I & the Girl) will move to Basel in Switzerland. Exchanging Pannekoeken for Basler Lakerli, Dutch for SwitzerDutch (sounds almost the same) and Kings Days for Carnaval.

For those who don’t know Basel: This city is the paradise of Pharma Industry (!), dry sweets (!!) and Vitra chairs (!!!). Don’t worry, from July on I will share pictures.

If you have any contacts in Basel: they are more than welcome. For us is Basel almost like a new country.

PS: “Doei doei” means “Bye Bye”
